Become a volunteer driver for the Handcross Community Bus

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community?   The Handcross Community Bus is looking to recruit more volunteer drivers to provide relief cover on existing routes.   These are scheduled services listed with West Sussex County Council and they run every weekday except Tuesdays.    The bus serves Bolney once a week, as well as many of the other remote villages locally, and provides a lifeline for many that use the bus.

Our drivers have the delightful task of driving through some of the most scenic Sussex countryside with grateful regular passengers who not only do their weekly shopping but view the trips as a much-needed social event.  Drivers have on average 1.5 to 2 hours at each destination to do their own shopping, have a coffee, read or whatever, before driving the route in reverse, bringing people home.    The Mercedes minibus seats 16 passengers and is an automatic, so the driving is not onerous, but a full assessment is organised and paid for before you start driving for the team.

If you have a D1 driving licence (if you passed your test before January 1997) then do contact us.   If you do not have the D1 then the process would involve application for that D1 category in the first instance.
